Home Depot Enhancing Garden and Wildlife on K1 Campus

  This is not the first time Home Depot has stepped in and generously improved learning spaces for our students.  But this time, they applied their creative talents and significant resources to enhancing the teaching garden and outdoor courtyard on our K1 campus.  Although, in "district time" the K1 campus is temporary, it will be the only K1 campus thousands of our students will ever know.  We don't treat it as temporary because every educational year is an opportunity to be maximized.  If we can capture children's imaginations at ages 5 and 6, giving them a love for nature and science, then we have set the groundwork.  Projects included four bat houses to decrease the mosquito population.  Fall plantings in the raised vegetable beds, a fountain, bird feeders, trellises, and decorative plants all contributed to a beautiful new look.  These photos are representative of the work accomplished... just add children:)

Garden Club

Our Junior Master Gardening club has been made possible through the help of so many partners.  The leaders were trained by the UGA Extension Service.  ibm.com provided the manpower to build a beautiful outdoor growing garden.  Lowes provided a $5,000 grant.  Then came Captain Planet to save the day with additional funding, expertise, and personnel.  Our students have been the clear winners in this collaborative endeavor.  The club has their own blog.
