Week of October 12-16

Greetings Parents! 

I hope you had nice relaxing Fall weekend! 

Some important dates to keep in mind: 

THIS THURSDAY October 15 is our 2nd Grade PTA Performance. Students will arrive in our classroom at 6:10 pm to get ready and line up. Our students have been working very hard on this and it will be such a treat to hear them sing!

October 18- THIS SUNDAY is our Fall Festival (information has been emailed and sent home regarding the details) 

October 19-23- Early Release/ Conference Week 

Can't wait to see everyone for conferences! If there are any transportation changes for conference week, please be sure to send a note with your student. 

I have made a slight change to spelling words. I had a practice round last week and it was successful, so we are going to continue it. I now have two lists of spelling words, a List A and a List B. For the students who needed more challenge for spelling words, I decided to include a list for more challenging words. Your child's spelling list sheet will you know which list they should study for the week. The lists are as follows

Week of 9/28-10/2

Can you believe it is almost October? I am amazed how fast the school year always seems to fly by in the Fall. I hope you had a wonderful Fall Break spending time with your sweet kiddos!

Cobb Safety Village (Friday 10/9): 

I will be sending home permission forms today for our field trip NEXT FRIDAY to the Cobb Safety Village. In order to participate I must have BOTH the WAIVER and the PERMISSION FORM on file. Please return these forms by FRIDAY of this week.

PTA Performance (Thursday 10/15): 

2nd grade will be performing their Fall Musical for PTA OCTOBER 15th. More details to follow. I sent an email yesterday with specifications on dress and volunteer information. 

Conference Week is just around the corner as well. Schedules will be going out soon!

Week of 9/14/15 through 9/18/15

Greetings Parents and Family,

A few important dates to keep in mind:

This week is the Support the Pride Campaign Week. A flyer went home today with information how you can get involved in supporting our school and funding new technology for all the classrooms.

October 9th the 2nd grade will be going to Cobb County's Safety Village. Permission forms and waivers will be coming home shortly.

October 19-23rd will be Conference Week as well as an Early Release Week. Report Cards will go home that week as well.

Our blends are long u and short u. We will be focusing on "ui" pattern and "u consonant e" pattern for long u.

Hope you enjoyed your 3 day weekend!

Getting back into the groove of the week is always a little harder when your coming from a long weekend :) I am glad to be back and we have a variety of things coming up. 

Tomorrow our students will participate in a Native American "Pow-wow". We have been studying the history of the Creek and Cherokee Indians for the past two weeks. 2nd grade students will rotate through each 2nd grade classroom and enjoy traditional Native American games, drawings, pottery, dancing, and jewelry making. Be sure to ask your child what they learned from their "Pow-wow" experience. 

Our focus for spelling and Words Their Way this week is long and short "o" sounds and spelling patterns. 

 

Our spelling words are:

Fox 

 

Progress reports will be sent home tomorrow. You may see several grades as N/A. We are still early on in our school year and those standards will be assessed within the next grading period.
