Giving Thanks!

We had a wonderful response to our Thanksgiving Luncheon!  We served over 600 guests and the community spirit and pride that was shown in our cafeteria was just overwhelming!  I enjoyed sharing Thanksgiving plans with so many of you. 

I want to thank our fabulous cafeteria manager, Valerie Stryker, and her top notch crew for the delicious food served with a smile.  Imagine preparing a turkey dinner for over 1,400 people over the course of two days!  They are the best in Cobb County!

Enjoy this special time with your family and friends.  I am thankful to be a part of King Springs Elementary and I am thankful for YOU and your precious children!

Conference Week

Every fall I look forward to parent-teacher conference week.  It's just one of those occasions that brings us together as a community.  Our teachers do an outstanding job of communicating student progress and areas in which students need additional support.

Be sure to take this opportunity to ask questions and find out about your child as a learner.  What interests him/her?  What does he/she find challening?  How does he/she deal with academic challenges?  What can you do to support him/her at home? 

Thank you in advance for taking the time to come in and meet with your child's teacher.  You will be glad you did!

Back to School!!

There is nothing like the sights and sounds of children returning to school after the summer!  New supplies, smiling faces eager to see old friends and make new ones, and of course, the ever-popular tennis shoes that help you run faster!!

We are off to a great start and once again, I am so very pleased and proud to serve as King Springs' Assistant Principal.  Each day I see students becoming more familiar with their new teacher and schedule.  Little folks are making it to their classrooms just like the bigger boys and girls.  King Springs is a very special place!

The very first day of school, a 1st grader hopped off the bus happily and said, "Do you remember me, Ms. Meyer?"  What a wonderful way for me to begin a new year.  Thank you for trusting us with your beautiful children. 

Way Cool Wax Museum

Friday was a terrfic day here at King Springs Elementary!!  I had a short conversation with Lucille Ball, stood next to the elephant of Robert Ripley, thanked George Washington for being the father of our country, told Louis Armstrong which of his songs was my favorite (What a Wonderful World), and asked Bill Gates if I could borrow a small amount of spending cash!  How did I have the great fortune of speaking with these important and historic people?

I simply visited the 1st grade wax museum held right here in our cafeteria!  I was so amazed and proud of the incredible work and dedication necessary to organize and prepare for this project.  Our students researched, performed, memorized, collaborated, and most importantly; LEARNED.  I am quite sure this is one of those memories that will last a lifetime....for all of us!!

Reflections of a New Assistant Principal

My mother once told me the best way to learn something is by jumping in with both feet!  I hope can  say with all sincerity that I have done just that the last seven days.  The welcome that I received from the teachers, students, and parents has continued to amaze me.  When Ms. Keeney told me that King Springs is a very special place where everyone treats one another like family, she wasn't kidding!  I respect and appreciate working in an atmosphere as caring as I have found here at King Springs.

In addition to some of the duties that I am learning and performing, I am continuing to learn the names of our teachers and staff.  If you are visiting the school, please remind me of your name and your child(ren)'s names.  It may take a reminder or two, but  getting to know everyone is one of my top priorities.

Just to let you know a little bit about me...I am from Illinois but have lived in Cobb County for over 25 years.  My parents still live in the house I was raised in and I try to visit them as often as my schedule allows.  I have a daughter who attends high school in Cobb County, and a cat who does nothing but eat and sleep.  I have taught several grade levels which provides me with an understanding of the developmental needs of all ages of children. 

I feel very fortunate to begin my administrative experience here at King Springs with Linda Keeney!  Her compassion and professionalism are traits I deeply admire.  Once again, thank you all for welcoming me into your school.  I couldn't be more honored!!
