This week's meeting was a combination of new information, harvesting, and pruning/clean up.
All students learned about lichens from a well produced video and then played an indoor game. Students took turns pruning the plants in our Tower Garden and performing general clean up. Some students dug the sweet potatoes planted in our teaching garden while others dug out the potatoes from our ornamental sweet potato vines in the large pots at the front of the school. It is interesting that if ornamental sweet potato plants are not treated with pesticides, they are also edible, though probably not as tasty as those that are gown for the root rather than foliage. In our next meeting our gardeners will refurbish the 5 large pots in front of the school so they look attractive through the winter.
