This month King Springs students may participate in a citizen science project offered by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s citizen science program, people across the continent help scientists by collecting data about their local birds and sending the information to scientists who study bird populations and conservation. This is a real-world connection for our students!
As students learn about some of the most common species of birds in Atlanta we know they will grow in their enjoyment of the world around them and become more aware of various habitats and the need for conservation.
There are many great online resources to build bird identification skills.
Students may record their findings and take them to the media center to be tallied and reported to Cornell University. Photos or drawings of birds spotted during March may be emailed to Mrs. Tovi or brought in on a flash drive to be posted on this blog.
None of us are bird experts... yet. But we are excited about this opportunity to learn and grow together. So, grab some binoculars and head outside... or at least to the nearest window!
