Dr. Judy Cannon - Reading Specialist (AKA "Math Woman")

24031893 Thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog!  I would love to tell you some things about myself.  I recently retired from full time teaching and have been re-employed at King Springs as a part-time support teacher.  This year I will be giving support to students and to teachers in a variety of different ways.  Teaching reading is a passion of mine. I also love to teach math!!  Working with teachers through staff development will also be a part of my job this year.  I am very excited about this new beginning!

For the first two weeks of school it was my privillege to teach in Mrs. Allison Powell's first grade classroom.  Mrs. Powell had a beautiful baby girl in December.  She had been put on bedrest by her doctor.  She and baby are doing fine, but Mrs. Powell will not return to King Springs this year.  Mrs. Jane Howser is now the permanent teacher in that classroom, and is doing an outstanding job.

I also volunteer my time to work with our fabulous chorus - The Melody Makers.  I will be with them in chorus each Monday and Thursday for rehearsal.  I also attend their performing events as a support to Ms. Chase and Mrs. Mullins.

Please feel free to contact me any time you have questions or concerns at judy.cannon@cobbk12.org.

School-wide Math Project

"Show What You Know About Fractions"

All King Springs students are invited to participate in our school-wide math project.  It is called "Show What you Know About Fractions!"  Students should simple use a sheet of notebook paper or plain white copy paper.  They should then show me a concept that they know about fractions.  Students can use any resources they have available to help - parents, math books, internet, etc.  It can be as simple as a kindergartener drawing a shape, dividing it into equal parts and counting those parts.  Of course 5th grade students will be able to illustrate and explain more complex concepts about fractions, such as how to add or subtract fractions with unlike denominators.  Students could also write songs or poems about fractions!  Have lots of family fun with fractions!

Prizes!!!

There are prizes involved.  Every student who participates gets a pink "Springer" ticket.  The best paper (overall school winner)  will receive an extra large Hershey bar.  Grade level winners will receive a regular Hershey bar.  Runners up in each grade level will win a mini Hershey bar.  Why Hershey bars?  They are divided into fractional parts! (Get it?)  All winning papers will be published in a book that will be on display in our media center.  Also, if at least half of our students participate I will present Mrs. Keeney with a very special prize on KSTV!  Papers are due January 30th.  If you have questions please contact me at judy.cannon@cobbk12.org.

Free Six Flag Ticket!!!

Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club

Important Message from Mrs. Keeney!

As we end our first month of school it is important that we begin to let students walk themselves to class.  It is also an important "Safety and Security" issue.  Beginning Monday please allow your child to walk themselves to class in the mornings.  We have staff members strategically place throughout the building for their safety.  If you have a reason to walk your child to class, please stop by the office and sign in on the visitor's computer.
